A letter from The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) and signed by several Republican lawmakers urges Arizona Governor Doug Ducey (D) to allow doctors in his state to use the drug hydroxychloroquine to treat patients with COVID19. He has thus far refused and has banned doctors for prescribing it to patients.
The AAPS bases its evidence on results reported by Turkey and India where the deaths per million are much lower than in the U.S. Deaths per million in the U.S. as of April 27 were 167 while that number in Turkey was 33 and India, .06.
The letter states: “Based on this evidence, we request that you rescind your Executive Orders impeding the use of CQ (chloroquine) and HCQ (hydroxychloroquine) and further order that administrative agencies not impose any requirements on the prescription of CQ, HCQ, azithromycin, or other drugs intended to treat or prevent coronavirus illness that do not apply equally to all approved medications that may be used off-label for any purpose.”
The Department of Health and Human Services received donations of millions of doses of the drugs from manufacturers Bayer AG and Novartis AG and.
President Trump’s health official, Dr Anthony Fauci, cautions we not “make that majestic leap to assume that this is a knockout drug,”
But the doctors and Surgeons of AASP disagree. As far as they are concerned, Hydroxychloroquine is a game-changer.
