Ilhan Omar might want to keep her suitcase handy.
After years of swirling rumors and eyebrow-raising allegations, the Department of Homeland Security has finally confirmed they’re taking a serious look into the Minnesota Democrat’s citizenship status. And yes — if the accusations of fraud turn out to be true, she could be stripped of her citizenship and potentially deported.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at DHS, told BlazeTV’s Liz Wheeler that the agency is reviewing whether Omar’s citizenship was obtained through fraudulent means. That includes a deep dive into her father’s asylum application — the very process that laid the groundwork for Omar becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen.
“We’re certainly aware of this, and it’s something that has been looked into,” McLaughlin said. “Under U.S. law, the grounds for denaturalization are if citizenship was procured on the basis of fraud. It’s very much a case-by-case basis.”
Translation: if you lied your way into the country, and then used that lie to gain citizenship, you’re in trouble. And if you’re a sitting member of Congress who’s been preaching about the “broken system” while allegedly gaming that same system — well, that’s what we call poetic justice.
Wheeler also pointed out the suspicious marriage allegations — yes, the one involving Omar’s alleged marriage to her own brother — and how that ties into the fraud narrative. Former ICE Director Tom Homan has already stated that DHS is actively investigating the case.
Let’s be clear: if her father faked his asylum to sneak into the U.S. and she got her citizenship because of it, then the law says that citizenship can be revoked. No special exemptions for members of Congress. Not even if they’re darlings of the radical left.
