Democrats Using Covid-19 Outbreak to Suspend the Constitution

Liz Wheeler of One American News recently reminded her viewers that, “Democratic politicians never let a crisis go to waste.” This can be seen in how politicians are using the COVID-19 outbreak to push their radical leftist agendas and suspend the parts of the constitution that they don’t like.

Benjamin Franklin, the elder statesman of our founding fathers, warned of the long-term effects of allowing a crisis to rob our fledgling nation of its liberties.

Franklin said, “Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Politicians across the land, both Republican and Democrat, have bought into the leftist disregard for the Constitution.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom set the tone early on the current crisis when he made it plain, he sees the Second Amendment, as optional. When he ordered “nonessential” businesses to close in response to the COVID-19 epidemic, he left local sheriffs to determine if gun sales were a part of that category.

The Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, a Democrats, is also using this crisis to take away people’s Constitutional rights. She recently held a press conference to order everyone to shelter in place. She threatened to arrest anyone who dared stepped outside to take a walk. Sheesh.

Cornell law professor Michael Dorf argues in favor of Democrat’s suspension of constitutional rights. He argues that, to “save the nation” from COVID-19 Congress should suspend habeas corpus.

Jacob Sullum of Reason responded that the Constitution says, “The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety may require it.”

Watch the video as Wheeler details the actions of civil leaders across the country and why their proposed cure for COVID-19 may be worse than the disease itself.
