Over the holiday weekend, Chicago once again became a shooting gallery: 54 people were shot, seven fatally. Yet instead of welcoming help, Illinois Democrats brushed off President Donald Trump’s repeated offers to intervene and restore order.
Governor JB Pritzker dismissed Trump’s efforts as nothing more than an attempt to “seize control of the 2026” midterms. He then shrugged off the bloodshed as simply “part of living in a big city.” In other words: business as usual, even if the “business” is bullets.
Chicago’s Democrat mayor, Brandon Johnson, went a step further, trying to whip up a street-level revolt with his chant of “no troops in Chicago.” The implication was clear—he’d rather risk more bodies on the pavement than admit federal help might work.
The political establishment has lined up behind them, because conceding Trump is right about crime would shatter their narrative. But not everyone in the Democratic ranks is willing to toe that line.
Former Chicago mayoral candidate Willie Wilson (D) broke with his party and cut to the chase:
“I support President Trump on this one… on this point here, crime, I support him 1,000%.”
Wilson went on to explain what every Chicagoan already knows—Democrat leaders are insulated from reality because they’re surrounded by taxpayer-funded security details. They don’t live with the danger; they live behind armed guards. If their safety were at risk for even a minute, they’d be the first to call Trump and demand troops on every corner.
That’s the heart of the matter: the double standard of leaders who dismiss the pain of ordinary residents while hiding behind their own protection. Wilson’s admission isn’t just a break in the party line—it’s a crack in the whole façade.
