It’s important to remember that Hollywood wasn’t always the way it is today. Sure, they’ve always leaned left of center, but as their influence has proliferated, leaning left of center has required increasing radicalism. If you look back 20 years, mainstream Hollywood had not yet embraced the notion of gay rights. It was still popular to make jokes that today are construed as “homophobic.”
They’ll call this progress, but it’s really something else. Hollywood has fallen under their own influence. Some 60 years ago, not every household had a TV. Going to the movies was a treat rather than a normal event. A full generation of Americans had no interest in film on any level. At most they might watch a news broadcast, but even then many preferred the radio. And, if you recall, radio stars were not consolidated in Hollywood.
As the economy boomed, more people had access to the products of Hollywood, and their reach expanded. As they influenced a younger generation, they received positive feedback from that youth. It created the echo chamber we all talk about today, and the very first to fall victim were the writers, directors, actors and producers of Hollywood. In short, they believe their own fictions and have genuinely lost touch with reality.
The easiest way to see this in action is to look at Saturday Night Live. They have always mocked politicians, but the nature of that mockery has shifted almost violently over the decades. If you have any doubts, just take a look at this video. It shows you exactly how far Hollywood has sunk.
