Congressman Jim Banks Says Democrats are Attempting to Frame Trump for Crisis

Rep. Jim Banks (R–IN) told Townhall this week that “Democrats are focused on going after Trump instead of holding China accountable.”

Banks told Townhall, “It is disappointing to see how Democrats who were once tough on China prior to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak are now silent as President Trump and Congressional Republicans take steps to hold the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) accountable for the global pandemic.”

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has targeted Banks along with Reps. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) and Lance Gooden (R-TX) due to their determination to make sure the Chinese government isn’t given a pass on its responsibility for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bank said he isn’t going to back down because the issues are “too important, too great.”

But it isn’t just China that Banks holds accountable. He said it is “shameful” how Democrats appear more focused on “blaming Trump” for the virus’s effects in our country than on “China’s human rights abuses … the military threat to the United States, and their attempts to steal intellectual property from U.S. companies.”

Banks has been a champion for small businesses devastated by shelter-at-home orders. In a bold move, he also sent a $2.1 billion invoice to the Chinese government for its complicity in the pandemic.
