Here’s something you don’t see every day—a Hollywood comedian actually calling out other comedians for being lazy, angry, and, let’s be honest, flat-out unfunny. Conan O’Brien, the tall redhead who used to run late-night TV, is going viral after torching his fellow comics for turning their whole act into one long “F Trump” meltdown.
In an interview this week with Oxford Union, Conan said what most of us have been thinking for years: these liberal comedians have traded punchlines for tantrums. “You’ve been lulled into just saying ‘F Trump. F Trump. F Trump. Screw this guy,’” he said. “You’ve now put down your best weapon, which is being funny, and you’ve exchanged it for anger.”
And boom, there it is. The guy’s not wrong. Half the late-night lineup sounds like they’re auditioning for MSNBC, not telling jokes. It’s been the same lazy routine since Trump first walked down that golden escalator: scream, cry, repeat.
Conan even admitted Trump is hard to parody because he talks in a way that’s already wild. But instead of getting creative, comedians just rage—and that’s where they lose the plot. “Good art will always be a perfect weapon against power,” he said. Except most of these clowns dropped the art part and stuck with shouting.
Now, Conan didn’t go full MAGA, and he still made some digs—mocking Trump’s ballroom plans and whining about FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. But even then, he couldn’t avoid pointing out that political comedy today is a mess. He’s been saying it for a while too, slamming comics last year for thinking just calling Trump an “a–hole” counts as a joke.
Maybe next time Stephen Colbert wants to rant, he should take notes from Conan and try being funny again. That used to be the whole point, remember?
