CNN’s Dana Bash Exposes Jeffries’ Hypocrisy on Voter ID

Hakeem Jeffries just got caught playing both sides of the fence — and CNN’s Dana Bash, of all people, called him out on it.

During a Sunday segment of *State of the Union*, Bash grilled the House Minority Leader over Democrats’ non-stop opposition to voter ID laws. She pointed out the obvious: Democrats just won in Virginia, a state that *already requires voter ID*. So why are they still whining like voter ID is some evil Republican plot?

Jeffries gave his usual song and dance, saying, “Every state is empowered to be able to make the decision on their own,” then immediately pivoted to accusing President Trump of trying to “nationalize” elections — which Jeffries called an attempt to “steal” the midterms.

Let’s pause right there. Back in 2021, Jeffries *co-sponsored* the For the People Act, which would have put the federal government in charge of state elections. Translation: He had zero problem with nationalizing elections when Democrats were in power. But now that Trump’s back in the White House and Republicans are running the show? Suddenly, it’s a crime against democracy.

Jeffries also made the wild claim that Trump wanted to “federalize the National Guard” to “intimidate people from voting.” No evidence. Just wild talk. But it’s what Democrats do best — scream about threats to democracy while ignoring their own double standards.

Meanwhile, the facts don’t lie. A Pew Research Center study from 2025 shows 83% of Americans support voter ID. That includes *71% of Democrats*. Voter ID is common sense. You need ID to buy cold medicine, drive a car, or board a plane — but Democrats still act like it’s voter suppression when it comes to the ballot box.

The bottom line? Democrats are all for nationalizing elections when they’re in charge — but when they’re not, they cry “fascism.” Jeffries just got caught in his own trap.
