Equating speech to violence has become a common tactic for those on the left and a dangerously effective one at that. In an effort to shut down the free speech of opposing viewpoints, leftist leaders working in tandem with the mainstream media have convinced their base that criticism of liberal ideologies is a direct attack against their identities equivalent to a literal act of violence.
Now, even CNN has been caught making this absurd and dangerous claim, saying that criticism of their network or the Democratic Party “incites violence”.
One of the biggest issues among many issues with calling free speech violence is the fact that it is often justifiable to meet an act of violence with another act of violence. If someone physically attacks you, attacking them back is not an act of violence but rather a justifiable act of self-defense.
Those who believe that free speech truly is violence, though, often combat free speech with their own acts of real violence, feeling justified the entire time.
Condemning speech that is critical of the left as an act of violence is also the first step to tyranny. If people are not able to express their views without being labeled as “violent”, democracy breaks down.
