Another Chinese biolab, another national security nightmare—this time in Las Vegas.
A suspected illegal biolab connected to the same Chinese national behind the Reedley, California, biolab—where deadly pathogens like Ebola and COVID-19 were found—has now popped up in a quiet neighborhood in Sin City. Rightly so, authorities are asking if China is preparing to unleash a biological terrorist operation on American soil. Because that’s a lot more likely than their ridiculous excuse that China just prefers to store their copies of the deadliest pathogens on the planet on U.S. soil in unsecured, illegal biolabs in suburban homes across the country.
On January 31, SWAT teams and federal agents raided a house on Sugar Springs Drive in northeast Las Vegas. The home had all the creepy hallmarks of a secret lab: refrigerators, freezers, mystery liquids, and lab equipment. Oh, and it was owned by Jia Bei Zhu—the same guy who ran the Reedley lab that had genetically engineered mice designed to carry COVID-19. Nothing to worry about, right?
Zhu, who is currently in federal custody and heading to trial on February 23, is a Chinese national who entered the U.S. illegally under the fake name “David He.” He’s also a fugitive from Canada with a $330 million judgment against him for stealing American intellectual property. Sounds like a real winner.
Authorities say the Vegas lab materials were “consistent” with those found in Reedley, meaning this wasn’t just some off-the-books chemistry set. This was organized, dangerous, and possibly funded by Chinese communist banks. Zhu’s partner, Zhaoyan Wang—also a Chinese national—has been charged too.
The kicker? One of the renters in the Vegas home said they had no idea what was happening in the garage. That’s how under-the-radar this operation was.
This isn’t just about illegal labs. It’s about foreign nationals setting up shop in our neighborhoods with potentially deadly bioweapons. And still, the Democrats want to talk about stopping ICE and allowing undocumented criminals to stay in our country while Communist China sneaks pathogens into our backyards.
Rep. Kevin Kiley said it best: “This can’t keep happening.” But it will—unless we wake up and stop letting foreign enemies play mad scientist in our country.
