Dr. Anthony Fauci recently appeared on Fox and Friends and left no doubt how he feels about the notorious “wet markets” of China.
There is little doubt among the world community that COVID-19 can be traced back to the people of Wuhan, China and their patronage of a “wet market.” These markets deal in live and dead wild animals – including birds, bats, fish, turtles, badgers, and pangolins (scaly anteaters) – that are sold for human consumption.
The deadliest viruses of the last 100 years emerged from human contact with live animals. These include:
- Asian Flu (1957-1958) – from a mutation in wild ducks that left at least 1.1 million dead.
- H5N1 Bird Flu (1997) – from Chinese geese and killed at least 455.
- SARS (2002-2003) – from wild animals (perhaps civet cats, and/or bats) — killed 774.
- H7N9 Bird Flu (2013) – from poultry at live bird market and left about 610 dead.
- Novel Coronavirus/COVID-19 (2019-present) – from wild animals (probably bats) in a Wuhan wet market and has left 40,000 dead and counting.
Because China is a communist dictatorship, it could put a halt to wet markets now. But as Bradley A. Blakeman writes for The Hill, “The fact they allow them to exist is unconscionable. China has no regard for the individual. It is all about the perpetuation of the State.”
