President Donald Trump’s White House announced a 90-day pause on tariffs (except for a 10% base tariff) for virtually all countries excluding one very big one: CHINA.
China, as Trump points out, has been the only one to try and retaliate against the American tariffs rather than show a willingness to work on a revised trade deal.
As a result, not only did Trump not pause the tariffs on China, but he actually INCREASED them AGAIN to 125% – a number that would no doubt crush the Chinese economy.
“At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable.”
The U.S. stock market instantly went SOARING in response to this, but that was just the cherry on top.
The real reason this move was so brilliant? Trump made it seem like he was going to wage a ruthless trade war with every country on the globe – when in reality China was the true target all along.
Earlier on Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the U.S. was working on an allied trading bloc to confront China. Then after the pause was announced, Bessent admitted that Trump’s strategy was to bait China into a bad position the entire time.
This is pure genius.
Trump has China backed into a corner and now it’s not just the U.S. versus China in this trade war – it’s the entire world versus China.
