President Biden’s nominee for US Trade Representative Katherine Tai says she knows “firsthand how critically important it is that we have a strategic and coherent plan for holding China accountable to its promises.” A known critic of China, Tai offers a glimmer of hope among the president’s China-friendly cabinet.
Tai has noted she does not plan to immediately reverse tariffs against China put in place by the Trump administration. The news provides at least some resistance to the open doors from other Biden nominees.
Former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal shared his thoughts on Fox Business regarding the president’s latest nominee, stating, “This is bigger than Hunter Biden, bigger than the US Trade Representative.”
Jindal added, “Look, the Chinese, what they’re trying to do is say their combination of state capitalism and political oppression of minority rights, what they’ve done in Hong Kong, what they’re trying to do in Taiwan, they’re trying to say to the world this is a better model.”
At least America has one friend in Washington to help provide some accountability for China during Biden’s administration. Hopefully Tai will be joined by others who care more about America than not offending a communist nation.
