President Biden reminds us of that elderly uncle we knew whose brain never engaged his mouth before he said something hilariously ridiculous. The President’s handlers must feel the same way when Joe goes the avuncular route and tries to go off script and appear bright and quick-witted.
“Oh, no! Did he really say that?” they cringe.
His latest foot-in-mouth episodes, after a year in office, include his fond memories with cackling Vice President Kamala Harris: “Last week President Harris and I stood in the United States Capitol to observe one of those before and after moments in American history.”
Wait. Did he say, President Harris?”
And, you know, this wasn’t the first time. He tripped over his tongue during a voting rights speech in Atlanta the previous Tuesday. Both times, he was in the friendly confines of liberal educators and a lazy press who couldn’t be bothered to notice.
Then there was his speech during the commencement ceremony at South Carolina State: “Of course, President Harris is a proud Howard [University] alum,” Biden told the crowd at the historically black university.”
That time, apparently, he didn’t appear to go off script. He was probably past his nap time and misread the lines his handlers wrote for him.
Like the time he decided to read punctuation marks: “End of quote,” he said.
So, are those countless stumbles, gaffes, and just downright goofy behavior just the slip-ups of an idiotic ex-Senator who was promoted past his competence? Or are they indicators of creeping dementia?
