Our government appears to be growing more and more tyrannical with each passing day and that’s something that should terrify Americans on BOTH sides of the aisle.
Serving as the latest bit of proof of that was one mayor’s decision to arrest a woman for the “crime” of criticizing a city official.
An Arizona woman, Rebekah Massie, used her First Amendment right to voice her opposition to one city official’s hefty tax-payer funded contract.
The contract in question included a raise for a city-attorney in Surprise, Arizona who Massie said had violated the U.S. Bill of Rights, the Arizona State Constitution, and the State Bar’s professional conduct rules.
Massie went on to cite several more reasons why this particular city official should not be employed by the tax-payers – let alone receive a raise – but the town’s mayor, Skip Hall, seemed to have an issue with Massie’s concerns.
Mayor Hall, interrupted Massie and claimed that the city council has some INSANE draconian rules which prevent oral complaints against employees of the city.
After Massie pointed out that this was a blatant violation for her right to Free Speech, the mayor threatened to have her “escorted out” if she didn’t “stop talking.”
As the argument heated up, the mayor eventually dismissed Massie’s concerns altogether and ordered her ARREST, with her 10-year-old daughter forced to witness the entire thing.
Then things got even WORSE when Massie said, “in front of my 10-year-old daughter, you’re gonna escort me out for expressing my First Amendment rights?”
Hall responded, “She can go with you” implying he was willing to have her the young child arrested as well.
While this incident may have taken place in a city you’ve probably never heard of in Arizona it speaks to a larger trend we’ve seen over the past few years.
Our politicians are acting as though they are better than us and how DARE we question or criticize them – all of this trickling down from the elitist attitude coming out of the current administration in the White house!
