Anti-Communist Protestor in Hong Kong Sings America’s National Anthem, Waves Flag

Ronald Reagan once said, “America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere.”

Images of anti-communists protestors in Hong Kong singing our National Anthem while waving the American flag serve as a reminder that the world still looks to the United States for direction in standing up to oppression.

The recent protests in Hong Kong should remind the rest of the world that Beijing has no intention of playing by the rules – not in matters of trade and certainly not in matters of human freedom.

As James Jay Carafano of Fox News observed, “Beijing has a well-deserved rep for playing fast and loose with the rules as it tries to bully its way to the top—and its actions with Hong Kong only reinforce that reputation.”

The Hong Kong system that depends on mainland China’s commitment to “one country two systems” has been a stellar economic success since the British transferred sovereignty over Hong Kong to China in 1997.

Economic success is popular among the Chinese Communist Party but political freedom is not. And, in recent years, Beijing has been slowly encroaching on the freedom that it guaranteed to Hong Kong.

Carafano warned, “China is acting like a global bully” and the world must stop ” tolerating it.

Watch the video and see what President Trump’s response has been so far. Various White House sources say that is likely to change very soon.
