It’s amazing how quickly Democrats can change their tune when political winds shift. For years, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and her colleagues laughed off claims of “rigged” elections, calling them conspiracy theories and labeling anyone who questioned voting integrity as dangerous to democracy. But on Monday night, Maddow finally found an election she thinks might be crooked — one that doesn’t benefit her party.
Maddow zeroed in on Texas redistricting, claiming that Vice President JD Vance and the Trump White House were leaning on other states to “rig their congressional maps” ahead of the 2026 midterms. Without a hint of irony, the same anchor who mocked Republicans for years over redistricting concerns and gerrymandering accusations now says she’s suddenly worried about fairness.
She didn’t stop there. Maddow then suggested that President Donald Trump’s push to exclude illegal immigrants from the U.S. census — a move supported by a majority of Americans who don’t believe noncitizens should be counted toward congressional representation — is part of a larger scheme to “undermine” the midterm elections. Translation: If Democrats can’t count illegal immigrants to boost blue-state House seats, it must be a plot.
In typical Maddow fashion, she escalated further, dragging Russian President Vladimir Putin into the discussion. According to her, Trump, Vance, and the GOP are using Putin-style tactics to cement power. The Cold War playbook may make for dramatic television, but it sounds more like a recycled script than a serious argument.
What Maddow refuses to grapple with is this: Democrats’ hold on power is collapsing not because of “rigged” maps or censuses, but because voters are walking away from their party in record numbers. That reality doesn’t fit her narrative, so instead, she points fingers at Trump and claims democracy itself is under threat — again.
It’s a new level of irony when the same people who spent years ridiculing conservatives for questioning election integrity now do the exact same thing the moment it suits them politically.
Don’t just take my word for it. Watch Rachel Maddow say it herself here:
