Afghan War Veteran Turned Congressman Defends Killing Soleimani by Asking Democrats One Question

Rep. Brian Mast of Florida provided a stark reminder of the hypocrisy of those who are deriding President Trump for authorizing the drone attack that resulted in the death of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.

The Republican lawmaker is a retired US Army bomb technician and Purple Heart recipient who lost both legs to an improvised explosive device in 2010 in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

During his questioning he artfully asked Democrats this question, “If you walk about this hallway … you’re going to come to several beautiful walls that have the names of our fallen service members from the war on terror. And I would ask, can any of you provide me with one name on that wall that doesn’t justify killing Soleimani?”

When he received no answer, Mast continued asking the same question adding, “I will sit here and wait for somebody to provide me with a name on that wall that does not justify the killing of Soleimani.”

Critics have claimed President Trump has offered a lack of evidence that he had reason to order Soleimani. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo responded during a Fox News interview, “There is no doubt that there were a series of imminent attacks that were being plotted by Qassem Soleimani … We don’t know precisely when, and we don’t know precisely where, but it was real.”

Mast emphasized that reality by refusing to be deterred in demanding an answer to his question.
