California’s lockdown restrictions rank among the strongest in the nation, but don’t tell Governor Gavin Newsom. In a recent luncheon in Wine Country, Newsom flaunted his own rules to attend the birthday of a friend.
While Californians have been warned to cancel Thanksgiving plans—and likely Christmas, too—Newsom dined in a swanky establishment many of his state’s residents could not even afford. The restaurant, called The French Laundry, offers meals starting at $350 per person.
Newsom was also not alone in his mischief. Among the friends in the room were the California Medical Association’s CEO, both photographed without masks.
And whose birthday was it, anyway? Newsom lobbyist Jason Kinney. When medical experts and state political leaders join to celebrate while crushing the state’s economy, maybe California’s residents will find another reason to join the Impeach Newsom petition that continues to gain steam among the angry masses.
The public outcry did result in a Newsom apology. He says he needs to “preach and practice, not just preach and not practice.” An interesting play on religious language for a governor who has shut down most church services since March.
While schools, businesses and churches remain closed due to the overwhelming danger of the pandemic, Newsom continues business—and dining—as usual.
