Former Vice President Joe Biden has a long history of verbal gaffes and outright racist remarks that are hard to ignore, unless you are part of the mainstream media.
During the debates last year, Biden stumbled badly when asked about the “legacy of slavery.” In the second half of the debate, ABC correspondent Linsey Davis gave Biden a chance to reflect on a remark he made in 1970:
“I don’t feel responsible for the sins of my father and grandfather … and I’ll be damned if I feel responsible to pay for what happened 300 years ago.”
Biden’s reflection was part incoherent prattling and part paternalistic advice to minorities. He said the government needs to send “social workers into homes of parents to help them deal with how to raise their children.”
Author Anand Giridharadas didn’t miss the remark the press would never forgive a Republican for. Giridharadas tweeted:
Joe Biden’s answer on how to address the legacy of slavery was appalling — and disqualifying. It ended in a sermon implying that black parents don’t know how to raise their own children. This cannot go on.
According to Biden, you prove your “blackness” by how much you support him. Perhaps its time for the community he claims to own to prove him wrong.
