The Washington Free Beacon has compiled a video montage that could well be titled, “Ode to the circular firing squad” as it reported the first of the Democratic presidential hopefuls to bow out of the race – California Congressman Eric Swalwell.
Speaking in Berlin in April, former President Barack Obama invoked that phrase when he gave a rallying call to progressives. Speaking about so-called “infighting” Obama warned that party infighting creates a “circular firing squad” where you start shooting at your allies because one of them is straying from purity on the issues.”
Less than 90 days officially in the race, Swalwell did his best to sound different by throwing out phrases like ‘passing the torch, the Avengers, and the Hunger Games.’
Swalwell becomes the first of a field of over 20 potential Democratic nominees to step down and Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post says “other Democrats should seriously consider bowing out as well.”
Rubin tries to make the case the candidates who can’t stand out in the crowd and differentiate themselves from the rest of the field are making it easier for President Trump to be reelected.
However, watch the video and see if Congressman Swalwell was really any different from the rest of the field.
