Sports organizations too often try to have their cake and eat it too. They want to hold up star athletes as cultural icons and heroes to push their brand. But that type of promotion often runs smack into real life issues that are important to the very moral fabric of the country. The NFL came under fire for players kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem. But it may have been the league’s poor handling of the issue that caused deep divisions.
On this Carmine video, the National Football League’s uneven ideas about fairness gets put under the microscope. The most popular professional sports league in the nation has a long and storied history of putting its brand ahead of causes and playing both sides.
It may stun Christians, but the NFL nearly came to blows with Tim Tebow for kneeling to pray to God before games back in 2012. When star player Brandon Marshall wore green cleats to draw attention to people suffering with mental health disorders, the NFL actually fined him.
Even more shocking is the fact that Robert Griffin III (RG3), was forced to turn a T-shirt inside out that read “Know Jesus, Know Peace” before being allowed to speak to the media. No players have been forced to stand or fined for disrespecting veterans, the American flag or National Anthem.
If you want to find out how deep the NFL’s hypocrisy goes, check out this Carmine video. The facts are appalling.
