With a single off-color remark in a Tweet, Roseanne Barr lost her job and quite possibly a career as a top comedienne. Worse for the aging sitcom star that enjoyed stunning success in her “Roseanne” reboot, she has become the focus of widespread public scorn.
On this Today segment, Natalie Morales reports on Roseanne Barr’s heartfelt apology for her remarks. The now fired celebrity had immediately recanted the poorly worded attempt at political sarcasm. But there appears to be no tolerance for conservatives who err at ABC. Only liberals get second chances at ABC.
Now, Barr is confronted with the reality that the major network has chosen to move forward without her. A recent spinoff called “The Connors” has been announced and the other cast and crew members are expected to keep their jobs.
In an interview with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Barr pours out her soul about how terrible she feels about making the remark many have dubbed racist. Barr is not making excuses. Instead she says, “when you hurt people, even unwittingly, there’s no excuse…I apologize to anyone who thought, or felt offended…”
Barr, widely considered a loud-mouthed woman of Jew heritage who has African-American family members, has taken full responsibility for her offensive remarks. But neither Barr nor the network have gotten the entire story out to the public.
Take a few moments and check out Roseanne has to say about her tweet and her being fired.
