Republicans Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader, and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham were heard in a newly leaked audio recording speaking against Donald Trump following the events of January 6th.
Yes, the two leaders talked a good game in front of the media, pretending to support the President and being aligned with Trump supporters, but behind the scenes was apparently a differently story.
Graham told New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin that Biden would “be the best person to have, right. I mean, how mad can you get at Joe Biden?”
McCarthy was leaked saying Trump’s moves put “people in jeopardy.” McCarthy’s words may be more understandable depending on the context, but the two new audio clips don’t look good for either leader.
We’re talking about two of the main people who were claiming to support Donald Trump after the 2020 election actually saying they were supportive when away from the cameras. This could be big for the future of the party.
The November midterms likely won’t remove McCarthy, but it could signal more of the cracks within the party. Conservatives want actual conservatives in Congress, not only those who play to win future votes or campaign dollars.
