Actor Will Smith shared a different message about violence back in 1992 on NBC’s “The More You Know.”
After his recent slapdown of comedian Chris Rock over comments against Smith’s wife, the controversy has led to a formal investigation as well as a public apology from Smith.
But one overlooked aspect is how Smith used to talk about violence. His words in the three decades old video show him speaking out against violence and advocating peace, a message he lost, at least temporarily, during his recent showdown at the Oscar Awards.
That’s not all, either. The video shows the co-hosts of “The View” melting down over Smith’s action. The cancel culture police are out to get him despite being his fan for years.
What will happen next is unknown, but when people think of Smith winning an Oscar in 2022, what they’ll really remember is his act of violence toward a comedian. Yes, he may not have liked the tasteless joke, but bad jokes are no excuse for violence. We teach our kids that stick and stones may break our bones, but words can not hurt me, and we need to continue pushing that narrative with adults who have forgotten that rule.
