Republicans Didn’t Modify Section 230 when they had the Chance. So What Now?

Republicans and conservatives want to eliminate Section 230 to protect free speech. Democrats like Amy Klobuchar want to modify Section 230 to promote more censorship. What’s the best way forward here?

Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza argues Republicans didn’t modify the policy when they had the chance. Now what should be done? Section 230 gives legal protection to large companies like Facebook and Twitter to censor or ban whoever they want because they are private companies.

But now social media is so large that some companies function like a TV network or phone company that is a public utility. The argument is that the protection must be changed so that social media platforms are legally required to allow genuine freedom of speech.

This is what former President Donald Trump’s recently launched class-action lawsuit is all about. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube/Google and others banned Trump because they legally could. The same rules applied to him can be used toward any user who says something a social media platform doesn’t want shared.

D’Souza notes Democrats want to modify Section 230 as well, but for different reasons. Minnesota’s Amy Klobuchar wants to include a public health exclusion. You know, so Facebook can continue to label or remove your COVID-19 posts. Check it out to discover the latest in the Big Tech battle now!

  1. That is not possible, their has already been a ruling in 1946 when a company tried to over rule an individual’s rights and the Supreme Court ruled that “not even a privately owned company can prevent an American citizen from exercising their constitutional rights. They come before any business or even government. They are guaranteed by the Constitution, which everyone is required to obey!!! Including private companies.

    1. Indeed, Lamont..Freedom of Speech is GUARANTEED under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.

  2. Just another example of why I have so much internal anguish when I walk into the voting booth. I can not and will not vote democrat. That being said, republicans are making it harder every day to vote for them. Look at what the democrats do when they are in power. They go all out to enact laws that brings our country dow. They never miss an opportunity. The republicans had a chance to build the wall, enact voter integrity, overturn Roe v Wade, list goes on. No they sit around and do nothing. This makes it hard for me to even vote. Never Democrat should be the Rally cry for republicans. Republicans can not defeat democrats so long as they defeat other republicans.

  3. I kinda liken this to the bar fight scene where the republicans are quietly sitting drinking their beer and just talking and then the bullies (dems) arrive looking to bust some chairs, tables and heads. Only way to treat bullies is to take them down forcibly . they don’t understand subtle
