The End of NFL Football?

Oh, the NFL…

Who would have thought that the antics of former San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick would have gotten so much hype a year ago when the angry young quarterback started taking to kneeling when the national anthem was played before his team’s games?

But now, Kaepernick’s stunts may be backfiring in the wake of President Trump’s comments about NFL players who have chosen to imitate his antics. Last Friday, Trump tweeted “Sports fans should never condone players that do not stand proud for their National Anthem or their Country. NFL should change policy!”

This was followed by Trump’s statement at a campaign rally in which the president asked, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’?”

On Sunday, players on more than a dozen teams either kneeling during the anthem or locked arms as a protest against Trump while the whole of the Pittsburgh Steelers — save for offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva — sat out the anthem in the locker room while ticketholders booed from the stands.

Needless to say, football fans are not happy with this disrespect shown to our country and to the game; they’re not watching games to see a political statement — they want to see football being played!

Watch, as YouTube’s Mark Dice shows how unhappy some gridiron enthusiasts are about their favorite pastime being ruined in this way.
